Identify the area you cannot comfortably use
Is the activity over a door, under the roof of a covered workspace, or near outdoor equipment? Explain the location and whether another route is available. Do not approach to test whether insects become defensive. Keep pets and other people clear, and avoid using a ladder or moving stored materials underneath a suspected nest just to improve the view.
Visible and concealed nests are different jobs
A paper structure hanging from an eave is not the same access question as insects entering a narrow wall opening. Say which you can actually see. Do not seal an active-looking hole or apply something into a hidden cavity on speculation. The species, structure, height, and access need assessment before work is selected, especially around occupied rooms or frequently used entrances.
Arrange the visit around the property
Mention locked gates, animals, overhead obstructions, and whether the affected structure is separate from the house. Ask what treatment and removal are included and how the area should be used afterward. Confirm which signs would justify another call. Bees and other flower visitors may also be present outdoors, so identification should distinguish a nest concern from ordinary insect activity in the landscape.
